Dolphins need a result in a CAF Confederation Cup clash in Equatorial Guinea this weekend against Leones Vegetarianos to convince Nigerians they are worthy representatives following a woeful display at the Super 4 in Abuja.
Though the expanded Super 4 was a competition to test the might of the country's flag bearers on the continent, Dolphins were the whipping boys as they failed to record any points in five matches.
But the club have since gone back to a closed training camping and should have worked on the many shortcomings in the team ahead of this clash.
The Port Harcourt club have featured in this competition three times and reached the final in their very first attempt in 2005, when they lost to FAR Rabat of Morocco.
Their two previous outings were in 2007 and 2008 when they crashed out in group stage and second round, respectively.
Dolphins were knocked out in the second round by Asante Kotoko of Ghana in their last appearance in this competition in 2008.
Leones Vegetaraianos will be hard nut to crack as they have some of their players in the Nzalang Nacional who featured at the just-ended AFCON – defenders Diosdado Mbele and Miguel Angel Ngomo.
Dolphins will miss the their talisman last season, Emem Eduok, who has joined Esperance of Tunisia after netting 20 goals in the league last season, but Christian Pyagbara was signed as his replacement and all eyes will be on him to now get the goals for them.
