The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has finally set the dates for the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) to be hosted by Rwanda.
CAF announced on Tuesday that the tournament, the second tier event in the continent will take place January 16 to February 7. Libya are the defending champions after stopping Ghana in the final last year in South Africa.
Olivier Mulindahabi, the Rwanda FA Chief Executive Officer said they are happy the dates have now been confirmed. He said preparations are going on according to plan.
Mulindahabi also said that the official website will be launched on March 15 as well as the advertising across several platforms like billboards and social media.
He confirmed that Ferwafa will send a delegation to South Africa, hosts of the 2014 edition to learn from their experience. CAF will also send a delegation to evaluate the preparations at a date they will communicate soon.
The event which will attract 16 teams will have games played at the Umuganda stadium in Rubavu, Huye stadium, Amahoro stadium and the Kigali regional stadium in Kigali.
Rwanda will use the 2015 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup as a rehearsal ahead of the CHAN event. They have also previously hosted the 2009 African Youth Championships for U-20 players and the 2011 Africa U-17 Championships.
