University of Pretoria booked their place in the next round of the Nedbank Cup following a 2-1 win over Moroka Swallows at Tuks Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Having claimed that they would eat 'Swallows for lunch' last week, Tebogo Monyai led his troops to a hard-fought win in a repeat of the 2009 Nedbank Cup final.
Rudi Isaacs’ goal could not prevent Fani Madida's men from suffering a fourth successive defeat, while for AmaTuks the result brought their maiden cup victory since being promoted into South Africa's top flight.
AmaTuks started the game the brighter of the two teams, with the attacking trio of Nyondo, Geofrey Massa and Thabo Mnyamane causing the Swallows defensive line all sorts of problems.
It was teammate Mosadi, though, who would open the scoring in the seventh minute, the speedy winger firing his effort between the legs of Obren Cuckovic. Far from an ideal start for the Serbian gloves-man, who replaced Greg Etafia in the starting XI.
The hosts squandered a catalogue of chances leading up to the half-hour and were made to rue their missed chances in the 35th minute.
Isaacs, who remained in the penalty box following a corner-kick, directed a thunderous header past Washington Arubi from a Lucky Baloyi cross, 1-1.
The goal changed the game, with the Dube Birds controlling matters into the break.
Their domination continued into the second stanza, with the Germiston-based club looking a different team to the side that looked nervous and uncertain in the opening exchanges.
Despite Swallows enjoying the upper hand, it would be the home side to score next through Nyondo. The Malawian capitalised on a defensive mistake to hit home his sixth goal of the season in the 74th minute.
The goal proved to be enough as AmaTuks advanced in the cup.
