The Lesotho senior team will be up against Botswana’s under-23 national team on Wednesday night. The game will kick-off at 19h00 at the National Stadium in Gaborone.

The Botswana national selectors have decided to play an under-23 team. This has been based on giving their junior team match practice ahead of the Olympic qualifiers starting in April.

The Young Zebras are drilled by Pio Paul, who is the senior national team assistant coach. Peter Butler has confirmed that he has given the idea the thumbs-up and will be giving Paul assistance together with his team.

When contacted for comment, the ever vocal Paul explained that their opponents expected the senior team.

“I, however, sat down with the coach of Lesotho, who said they also have mostly under-20s who have graduated to the senior team. They skipped the under-23 because they don’t have the money to compete in the next competition,” Paul said.

“The results are what we need, yes, but I want game discipline, to keep the ball, and I want match fitness. I will be assessing the players and the core of today’s team is what we will use going forward. This will be our first game and we will be looking at it that way,” Paul explained.
