ASEC Mimosas came from behind against Al Ittihad to seal their spot in the Confederation Cup’s round of 16 in Tunis on Saturday.

Held to a 1-1 draw in Abidjan in the first leg of their round of 32 tie, the ‘Yellow and Black’ managed to overturn their deficit with a 2-1 away win at El Menzah Stadium.

One goal down after five minutes of play with an opener from Mohamed Salem, Alain Gouaméné’s men levelled things in the 17th minute thanks to Brefo Mensah’s free-kick, before taking the lead two minutes from time through Zakri Krahiré.

Al Ittihad had to settle with the 1-2 defeat after missing a great chance from the spot in the 76th minute, and bid farewell to Africa’s second-tier clubs competition.

ASEC will face in the round of 16 Mali’s Onze Créateurs or Niger outfit Sahel SC.
