Algerian outfit ASO Chlef will host Club Africain of Tunisia in Chlef on Friday
, in the first leg of their Confederation Cup last 16 tie.
Kicked out at this stage of the tournament in 2007 in their last appearance in Africa’s second-tier club competition, the Algerians will have another opportunity to make it through to the final round of 16 after getting past Horoya AC on penalties in the round of 32.
And while they have been struggling this season on the national stage, lying deep at the bottom of the log, ASO Chlef will be looking to keep a certain momentum going after winning four of their last five matches through all competitions.
However, 2011 runners-up Club Africain, who booked their ticket for a last 16 spot following the disqualification of Nigerian side Dolphins, will be the favourites to advance.
Still well in the race for the Tunisian league title, beside Etoile Sportive du Sahel and Espérance de Tunis, CA recorded back-to-back convincing victories in their last two national outings and will try to secure a good result away from home before hosting the ‘Red and White’ in Tunis in the return leg.
It will be the first time that the two sides meet in a CAF competition.
The match will kick off at Stade Mohamed Boumezrag at 19h00
