Zamalek were held to a goalless draw by FUS Rabat in the Confederation Cup in Suez on Sunday, in the first leg of their round of 16 tie.
Coach Jesualdo Ferreira’s men struggled to create good chances at the Suez Stadium, with a rather disappointing display from attacking trio Ahmed Ali, Ahmed Eid and Hazem Emam and playmaker Ayman Hefni.
And the visitors came even close from taking the lead at the half-an-hour mark when Gambian striker Youssoupha Njie struck the woodwork for the Moroccans.
However, FUS Rabat were quite happy with the final outcome after putting in a great defensive performance against the ‘White Knights’.
Zamalek are now left with no other choice but to clinch a win away from home to advance to the second and final round of 16 of the continent’s second-tier clubs competition, with the Egyptians set to travel to the Moroccan capital for the return leg in a fortnight.
