Togo international striker Floyd Ayite scored in the 84th minute to give Bastia a 1-0 win over St Etienne in France's Ligue 1 on Saturday evening.

Ayite along with fellow Africans Francois Kamano (Guinea), Ryan Boudebouz (Algeria) and Drissa Diakite (Mali) all started the game for Bastia while Ivorians Romaric and Giovanni Sio came on in the second half.

For St Etienne there would be no joy for their Ivorian star Max Gradel who has enjoyed a stellar run of form that has seen him score goals consistently for the past few weeks.

Bastia are now closer to securing their place in Ligue 1 for next season after Ayite's late goal gave the Corsicans a narrow victory over Saint-Etienne.

The Blues almost took an early lead when Gael Danic put his attempt just wide of goal following Francois Modesto's cross.

Half an hour into the game and Bastia again threatened when Francois Kamano's shot was saved by French international Stephane Ruffier. But then Saint-Etienne came close to going ahead before the break after Landry N'Guemo's effort was turned away by Alphonse Areola.

Bastia showed their intent though and continued to enjoy the majority of goal-scoring chances, with Ayite unleashing a shot from long-range that Ruffier did well to keep out.

Ayite finally found a goal with six minutes remaining on the clock when he powered the ball into the bottom corner of the Saint-Etienne goals.

The win means that Bastia are now six points clear of the bottom three teams in France's Ligue 1.
