Zamalek qualified for the play-offs of the Confederation Cup on Sunday, after getting past FUS Rabat 3-2 on aggregate in their last 16 tie.
Held to a goalless draw in Suez in the first leg, the ‘White Knights’ secured a 3-2 win in Morocco in the return fixture to extend their journey in Africa’s second-tier clubs competition.
The visitors took the lead in the 15
th minute thanks to striker Bassem Morsi, with FUS levelling five minutes from half-time through Marwane Saadane to send the two sides on equal footing into the break.
Rabat striker Mourad Batna put the locals ahead in the 72
nd minute to revive their hopes of a play-offs spot, but Zamalek right-back Omar Gaber equalised six minutes from time before teammate Hazem Emam restored the Cairo giants’ lead to finish off the job for the ‘White Knights’.
Jesualdo Ferreira’s men will know their future opponents on Tuesday, when the draw for the play-offs of the continental tournament will take place.
