Orlando Pirates’ Confederation Cup play-offs opponents AS Kaloum have wielded the axe on head coach François Zahoui on Wednesday
The Ivoirian manager paid the price for failing to qualify the Guinea champions to the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
The ‘Yellow Submarine’ bowed out in the round of 16 of Africa’s first-tier club competition with a 2-3 aggregate loss to USM Alger.
Zahoui, who led Côte d’Ivoire to the final of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, had been appointed at the helm of Kaloum in February, following the sacking of former coach Pascal Janin for poor results.
The 52-year old has been in contact with the Niger football association to take over the ‘Mena’, according to foot224.net
Zahoui’s former assistant Aly Touré has been put in charge of the team as caretaker coach, and will lead AS Kaloum in their two-legged continental battle against the ‘Buccaneers’.
The Guineans will host Orlando Pirates in Bamako on 15-17 May
, before travelling to Johannesburg on 5-7 June
