Raja Casablanca will host Etoile Sportive du Sahel in Morocco on Saturday, in the first leg of their Confederation Cup playoff tie.

The ‘Green Eagles’ have been handed a second chance in Africa’s second-tier club competition, after bowing out of the CAF Champions League following a round of 16 exit at the hands of ES Sétif on penalties, while the Tunisians booked their place in the playoffs thanks to a 2-1 aggregate victory over Young Africans.

Struggling on the domestic stage, Raja will be eager to save their season with a qualification for the group stage of the continental tournament, under the guidance of new coach Fathi Jamal, who replaced fired José Romao at the helm of the squad.

“The teams are on the same level in these playoffs. Our squad is a bit average this season, but you must remember that we didn’t go beyond the second round with all the good players last year. Everything can happen in football,” Raja’s Ivoirian midfielder Kouko Guehi told mountakhab.net.

“We are going to fight against ES Sahel as it is our last chance to save our season. We need to do our best in the first leg so we can travel peacefully to Tunisia.”

The two sides already met in an official CAF competition, with Etoile enjoying a 2-0 aggregate win over the Moroccans in the semifinals of the 2005 Champions League.

The game is scheduled to kick off at Stade Mohammed V at 20h00 CAT on Saturday.
