A second-half strike from Talent Chawapiwa secured a 1-0 win for Zimbabwe over the Seychelles at the Moruleng Stadium in Rustenburg on Tuesday.
The victory leaves Zimbabwe on the brink of winning Group A which will set up a meeting with Zambia in the quarterfinals.
The Seychelles had an early chance to open the scoring after Karl Hall weaved his way into the area, but his left-footed effort was well kept out by SuperSport United's George Chigova.
Chigova wouldn't have much to do for the rest of the game as 'the Pirates' found themselves pegged deep in their own half.
Chawapiwa was the chief protagonist and almost found the opener with 26 minutes on the clock. The midfielder cut inside onto his stronger left-foot and his sweet strike looked destined for the back of the net, but Jose Euphrasie was up to the task, tipping the ball onto the post and away from danger.
Raphael Manuvire then squandered a glorious chance to open the scoring on the half hour mark. Carlos Rusere picked out the Zimbabwean number 10 win a pin-point cross, but he somehow failed to hit the target with the goal at his mercy.
Zimbabwe continued to pile on the pressure, but somehow the Seychelles defence held firm to send the teams into the tunnel deadlocked at 0-0.
Four-time Cosafa Cup winners Zimbabwe resumed where they left off after the break and eventually found the opener through Chawapiwa in the 53rd minute.
The Harare City winger hitting a stunning half volley into the corner of the net from outside the area.
The Warriors were hardly tested in defence and pressed forward for the second, but Evans Rusike was guilty of overplaying as Ronald Chitiyo blazed his resulting shot well over the crossbar.
If Namibia and Mauritius play to a stalemate in the 19h00 kick-off, Zimbabwe will be through to the next round.
