Sports Club Vipers have been crowned champions of the 2014/2015 Azam Uganda Premier League.
Coach Edward Golola’s team on Tuesday humbled Bidco FC 1-0 at the Buikwe Stadium in the last League match and received their trophy after the match. “We are happy with this achievement and hope that we can be strong in the 2016 CAF Champions League,” added Golola.
Farouk Miya who scored the lone goal and finished third on the scorers chart with 11 goals said it was team work and good motivation that helped them win the trophy. “ We worked so hard as a team and we deserved to win the trophy,” he told AfricanFootball.com.
SC Vipers finished on 69 points, four ahead of SC Villa who also picked a 1-0 win over Bright Stars FC. Kira Young FC lost 2-1 to army side Simba SC to join Rwenshama FC and Entebbe FC in the lower Division. Erisa Sekisambu netted the lone goal for SC Villa in their 1-0 win over Bright Stars FC, while Lweza FC registered a 1-0 win over KCCA FC at the Philip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Soana FC also made sure they stay in top flight football with a 1-0 win over Police FC, while Sadolin Paints and SC Victoria University settled for a goalless draw.
In the other games played on Tuesday URA FC stopped Express FC 2-1. Robert Ssentongo who completed the season as the top scorers with 14 goals netted one of the goals, while Feni Ali scored the second goal. John Ssemazi picked the consolation goal for Express FC.
Next season Maroons FC, The Saints and Jinja Municipal Council which gained promotion will play in the top Tier Azam Uganda Premier League.
