Striker Mamadou Niang had given the Senegalese the lead after just nine minutes of play, with Salif Krubally levelling matters for the visitors two minutes later.
However, midfielder Abdoulaye Ba restored his side’s one-goal advantage on the stroke of half-time, before Niang’s brac
e in stoppage time handed the locals a crucial two-goal cushion.
Senegal, who have been preparing for the return clash in Toubab Dialao, will be confident they can finish the job in Gambia and book their place for the next round of qualifiers and a meeting with Guinea or Liberia.
The game is scheduled at Independence Stadium in Bakau on Saturday, 4 July 2015 at 18h30 CAT.
