Egyptian CAF Champions League rookies Smouha will aim to retain their place at the top of Group A when they travel to Sudan’s Al Hilal on Sunday evening.
The match at the Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman will kick off at 21h00 CAT.
The Alexandria-based team opened their group phase campaign with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Morocco’s Moghreb Tetouan at home last month.
After conceding two early goals, the ‘Blue Wave’ netted three times in the final quarter of the match through Salah Amin and a brace from Hermann Kouao to claim three points and move top of the standings.
And they did this despite the sacking of coach Helmy Toulan on the eve of their match. However, their patchy form in Egyptian domestic football continued this past week, with a comfortable 3-0 win over Asyouty Sport preceded by a 3-1 loss to Ismaily.
As for Hilal, they opened their group campaign with a morale-boosting goalless draw away to DR Congo heavyweights TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi.
Coach Nabil Kouki praised his side for their performance in Central Africa, but will expect nothing less than a victory and the collection of three points at home on Sunday night.
Moroccan referee Rédouane Jiyed will take charge of the match on Sunday night.
