Egypt enjoyed a 5-1 thrashing of Chad in N’Djamena on Sunday, in matchday two of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The result sent the Egyptians back to the top of the Group G table on 6 points, with Nigeria lying second on four points following their goalless draw in Dar Es Salaam with Tanzania on Saturday.

It took the Pharaohs only two minutes of play to take the lead, thanks to Bassem Morsi who slotted a cross delivery from Mahmoud ‘Kahraba’ past the Sao’s keeper.

The Zamalek striker doubled the visitors’ advantage in the 25th minute, beating the keeper at the near post to complete his brace.

Belgium-based midfielder Nadjim Haroun managed to pull a goal back for the locals in the 38th minute, but AS Roma star winger Mohamed Salah restored Egypt’s two-goal cushion two minutes later after breaking through Chad’s defence to win his one-on-one with the keeper.

However, the Pharaohs were lucky to go 3-1 up into the break, with Zamalek keeper Ahmed El-Shenawy denying the Sao’s attack on several occasions and Chad hitting the cross-bar on the stroke of half-time.

The seven-time African champions kept the pressure on in the second half, adding to Chad’s misery in the 56th minute, thanks to Zamalek latest addition Mahmoud ‘Kahraba’.

And Morsi hammered the final nail into the Sao’s coffin just past the hour mark to celebrate his hat-trick.
