Nigeria international Sylvester Igboun has told AfricanFootball.com his family name was mistakenly changed by his Danish club FC Midtjylland.
He said his surname is ‘Igbonu’ but it was misspelt ‘Igboun’ at his first club abroad and this has since stuck.
"My surname is Igbonu, but it was misspelt right from when I started in Denmark with FC Midtjylland,” said the Russia-based forward, who celebrated his birthday on Tuesday when the Super Eagles beat Niger 2-0 in a friendly.
"I can't even remember what we discussed after it was noticed."
A similar thing happened to Chelsea star Mikel Obi when an official of the Nigeria U17 team reportedly changed the player’s first name 'Michael' to 'Mikel' on his first passport.
