Etoile Sportive du Sahel enjoyed an astonishing 5-1 win over Zamalek in Sousse on Sunday night, in the first leg of their Confederation Cup semifinals tie.

Zamalek experienced their worst start in a very long time, conceding two goals in ten minutes.

Midfielder Marouane Tej first gave Etoile the lead five minutes into the game, assisted by defender Alaya Brigui, while striker Baghdad Bounedjah made it two five minutes later before coming close to add to the visitors’ misery in the 19th minute.

However, Ayman Hefny pulled a goal back with an 18-yarder in the 24th minute, to boost his side confidence.

But Alaya Brigui headed home a cross from Iheb Msakni ten minutes later, to restore Etoile’s two-goal lead, with Baghdad Bounedjah hitting the woodwork on the stroke of half-time.

The White Knights were again saved by their post on another powerful header from Alaya Brigui in the 57th minute, but Zamalek keeper Ahmed El-Shenawy was left speechless by Marouane Tej, who completed his brace with a superb effort from range in the 83rd minute.

And defender Saddam Ben Aziza hammered a final nail into the Cairo giants’ coffin, with a successful header four minutes from time.

Jesualdo Ferreira’s men are now facing an impossible mission, with the return leg set at Petro Sport Stadium next Saturday.
