The prospect of an all-Sudanese final in the CAF Champions League looks unlikely after this weekend’s semifinal, first leg results.

Both matches were played in Omdurman, with Al Merreikh hosting DR Congo’s TP Mazembe, while Al Hilal welcomed USMA of Algeria.

The first clash on Saturday saw Al Merreikh defeat Mazembe 2-1 thanks to goals from Francis Coffie and Bakri Babeker, but Thomas Ulimwengu’s away goal means the Ravens will be confident of turning the tie around in the return match set for Sunday afternoon in Lubumbashi.

Sunday’s second semifinal first leg match saw Al Hilal outplay USM Alger, but the visitors managed a 2-1 away win thanks to goals from Mohamed Amine Aoudia and Karim Baiteche, as well as a superb goalkeeping performance from Mohamed Lamine Zemmamouche.

With a 2-1 away lead in the bag, the Algerians are heavily favoured to complete an aggregate victory when they host the return match at Stade Omar Hamadi on Saturday night.

The two winners will meet in the final, which is scheduled to be played over the weekends of October 30 to November 1 and November 6-8.
