Ahead of their CAF Confederations Cup semi-final second leg clash against Egypt’s Al Ahly on Sunday, Orlando Pirates legend Helman Mkhalele says coach Eric Tinkler deserves all the credit.
Mkhalele was part of the Bucs side that clinched the CAF Champions League in 1995 and went on to win the 1996 CAF Africa Cup of Nations with Bafana Bafana and he believes that his ex-Bafana teammate has done well for the club.
Speaking to KickOff.com, the ‘Midnight Express’ said Tinkler must be credited for the team’s run in the continental showpiece saying the team can come back with a positive outcome in the North African country.
“No, I do not think he is under any pressure at all, the team is doing well in the CAF competition and he must be given credit for taking them this far,” said Mkhalele.
“We must also consider that this is a team that did not have a break because of their participation in the Confederations Cup.
“They have done very well and I think they have the ability to get a positive result in Egypt.”
The Sea Robbers beat the Red Devils 1-0 last Saturday after forward Thamsanqa Gabuza netted the solitary goal handing the South African side an advantage going to the second leg.
The match is set to get underway at 20:30 at Suez Stadium in Cairo on Sunday and a win or a draw will take the Buccaneers to the final.
