Following their gutsy performance in Cairo on Sunday night against Egypt’s Al Ahly, Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler says he knew the Red Devils would be extremely strong.
The Soweto giants are through to the CAF Confederation Cup final after beating Fathi Mabrouk’s men 4-3 on Sunday night and Tinkler believes it was a tough match.
PIRATES ADD TO AHLY’S WOES
Goals by Kermit Erasmus, Thamsanqa Gabuza, Thabo Rakhale and Thabo Matlaba gave the South African side a hard fought win over the Confederation Cup defending champions.
“We played better on the counter with Rakhale & Erasmus because they have incredible speed," said Tinkler after the match.
“They were extremely strong in the first half, put us under pressure. I’m not sure if the goal they scored was or wasn't offside.
"This was always going to be a game of 180 minutes and we knew that going into the home leg."
However, Pirates will now have to focus on their domestic matches as they’re set to face University of Pretoria in the Telkom knockout Cup.
According to Confederation of African Football, the final against Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel is set to be staged on November 20 and the second leg one week later.
