Mauritania have continued with their unbeaten run as they played to a 1-1 draw against South Sudan during their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers match on Thursday at Juba Stadium.

Although the match was initially scheduled to get underway on Wednesday afternoon, it was suspended due to heavy rain and had to be continued on Thursday.

The hosts would’ve liked to see their first appearance in a World Cup qualifying campaign getting off to a win, but it was called off because of heavy rain after only 10 minutes played.

However, the score remained unchanged in the replay on Thursday’s match with both goals having been scored on Wednesday.

Boubacar Bagli netted first for the visitors in the opening three minutes before Dominic Abui Pretino found an equaliser in the fifth minute to ensure his side claimed a draw.

Although South Sudan joined international football in 2012, a year after the country became independent from Sudan, it looks like they will have to fight very hard to get a win in Mauritania as they couldn’t claim one at home.

The second leg is set to be staged in Nouakchott, Mauritania, on Tuesday October 13 and both nations will hope to do well and improve their chances of making it to Russia.
