In the wake of the announcement that he is nominated for CAF Player of the Year based in Africa, Orlando Pirate striker Thamsanqa Gabuza says he feels honoured.
The Confederation of African Football has released a list of nominees and fellow Pirates players such as Kermit Erasmus, Oupa Manyisa, Felipe Ovono and Gabuza have all been included among the 24 players nominated.
Speaking to the club’s official Twitter account, Gabuza said they are not looking far ahead, but they’ll keep working hard.
"We aren't looking too far ahead though. We're just keeping our feet on the ground and letting the performances do the talking," reads the Tweet.
PIRATES QUARTET NOMINATED FOR CAF AWARD
"I'd like to thank the people who have made it possible for me to get nominated. My team, the coaches, everyone.
"It’s an honour to be shortlisted with Shorty (Kermit Erasmus) over here. It will be great if we get all the way to the end."
Gabuza, Erasmus and Manyisa have scored 14 goals between them while Ovono has filled in for the injured Brighton Mhlongo with great aplomb.
The nomination comes at the back of Pirates’ exploits in the continent as they are set to face Tunisia’s Etoile Sportive du Sahel in the CAF Confederations Cup final in November.
