Lennox Bacela is delighted to see Kermit Erasmus flourish in Africa, with the Orlando Pirates striker one of four players nominated for the CAF Player of the Year based in Africa award.
Erasmus missed out on Pirates' run to the 2013 final due to him having represented SuperSport United on the continent that year, before his move to the Soweto giants.
The 25-year-old has been eager to make up for lost time and has played an integral part alongside fellow strike partner Thamsanqa Gabuza, who has also been nominated for the accolade, in the Buccaneers reaching the 2015 CAF Confederation Cup final.
"It's great to see, especially for Kermit. I felt for Kermit because when we joined the club together he couldn't be registered, so I told him that I hope one day he gets his chance and he has," Bacela, who was part of the Pirates team that lost to Al Ahly in the final two years ago, said when asked about their exploits this season.
"I happy that he [Kermit] and Gabuza have grabbed the opportunity and obviously now it's a huge thing for them to be nominated and it's a good thing for the club as well."
Felipe Ovono and club captain Oupa Manyisa round-off the nominated quartet.
Gabuza and Erasmus have scored five goals apiece while Manyisa has chipped in with four. Ovono has filled in between the sticks for the injured Brighton Mhlongo.
Pirates face Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel in the final next month.
