Egypt will file a formal complaint to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against Cameroonian referee Effa Essouma over his handling of their U23 AFCON match against Nigeria.
Egypt FA board member Hamada Al Masry said that they will complain against the Cameroonian referee due to his “wrong decisions” during the encounter.
Egypt U23 coach Hossam El-Badry blamed the referee for his team's 2-2 draw with Nigeria in their second group game in Senegal on Wednesday.
The coach blamed the referee and questioned his decisions to award two penalties to Nigeria in the first half.
“The scenario we faced in this game was a very weird one because of the poor decisions from the referee. We want fair judgement. We were always in praise of the African referees and then these things happen and they take us back to step one again,” El-Badry said.
He is now focused on the last group match against Mali.
“We went through a healing process after the game and we are now concentrating on our final group game against Mali which is very critical to our position in the group,” he said.
