Two second half goals from Collins Mbesuma and Bhongolethu Jayiya ensured Mpumalanga Black Aces walked away with a point when they drew 2-2 against Ajax Cape Town in their Absa Premiership encounter at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night.

AmaZayoni displayed a gutsy performance in the second half to cancel out Ajax’s first half strikes by Riyaad Norodien and Prince Nxumalo.

Following the stalemate, Muhsin Ertugral’s men move back to the third spot with 36 points whilst Roger De Sa’s remain in the top eight with 23 points.

Although Aces took time to settle down in the match, Shu-Aib Walters was the busiest keeper when he was nearly beaten by Toriq Losper in the 10th minute, but his shot went over the crossbar.

Mbesuma gave Anssi Jaakkola something to work on after 15 minutes of play when his header was easily collected by the goalkeeper.

In the 22nd minute, Norodien made a wonderful run into the box and found the back of the net with a right foot finish after an assist from Nxumalo, 1-0.

Five minutes before the break Nxumalo made it two after a great turn into the box before beating Walters from close range, 2-0.

The Nelspruit-based side came back into the match when Mbesuma netted an equaliser in the 48th minute after beating Jaakkola from close range with a slight back heel, 2-1.

In an attempt to stretch their lead, the hosts nearly made it three after a quick run from Losper into the penalty area, but his well taken shot went wide of the far post in 52nd minute.

In the 83rd minute Aces received a free-kick in a promising position on the edge of the box, but Lehlohonolo Nonyane’s attempt went straight to into the arms of Jaakkola.

However, a minute later Lebohang Manyama collected the ball from deep in the midfield and released the speedy Jayiya who outran the Ajax defence and beat Jaakkola on his left corner to make it 2-2.

Despite their attempts to find a late winner in the dying minutes, both sides had to settle for the draw.
