CHAN Eagles star Ifeanyi Matthew will make his debut for Kano Pillars at home against Enugu Rangers in Sunday’s star match on the opening day of the Nigeria league season.
Matthew, 19, has shone in training for new club Pillars and the Kano club’s fans can still not forget the long-range scorcher he scored against their darling team two seasons ago.
“He is most likely to start against Rangers with what he has shown in training and what the coach has been saying about him,” a top source revealed.
Incidentally, he will come face-to-face with Rangers, who were also interested in signing him for this season.
The former Flying Eagles midfielder, who was picked by coach Sunday Oliseh as his best player from the recent CHAN in Rwanda, has joined Pillars on a season-long loan from El Kanemi.
Interestingly, the attacking or defensive midfielder was born and grew up in Kano. He played for local club Sarduana in the lower league, but somehow escaped the radar of the city’s top club until after his exploits with another premier league side El Kanemi.
