Akwa United goalkeeper Olufemi Kayode has said his team have put behind them a shock exit from this year’s CAF Confederation Cup to focus on the Nigeria league.
He said their ouster after a penalty shootout by V Club Mokanda of Congo was painful, but they cannot afford to dwell more on the past.
"We have put behind us our elimination from CAF Confederation Cup, it has not been easy to forget it but we just have to as we cannot live in the past, so we have to put that behind us to move on,” he said.
"We won our first league game after the elimination 3-1, that tells you will are getting over it.
“We will play Pillars in Kano on Sunday. We are looking forward to a favourable result there."
The Nigeria cup holders are now under the leadership of veteran sports journalist Paul Bassey after the Akwa United management board was sacked in the wake of the Confederation Cup elimination.
