Nigeria champions Enyimba are set to complete a double over Burudian foes Vital'O when they clash this weekend in a CAF Champions League first round second leg game in Bujumbura.
‘The People’s Elephant’, as Enyimba are called, thrashed Vital'O 5-1 at the Adokie Amesiemaka Stadium in Port Harcourt last weekend and they are hoping for another victory away from home.
On the strength of that game, the seven-time Nigeria champions appear to have got their acts together in front of goal after they struggled to score goals despite creating countless chances in previous outings.
All-time top scorer in Nigeria League history Mfon Udoh, who netted a brace in the first leg, said Enyimba are gunning for an outright victory in the return clash to book their place in second round.
"It was a good game and a massive victory for us in the first leg, we are looking forward to another good game and victory in Burundi,” said Udoh.
“We have not relented in our preparation, no complacency, it’s total victory that is our target."
Udoh has set the pace in the top scorers’ race in this year’s competition with four goals.
Enyimba have been boosted with the release of goalkeeper Femi Thomas and Chima Akas from the Super Eagles training camp for this game.
Enyimba won CAF Champions League back-to-back in 2003 and 2004, while Vital'O have previously featured in this competition eight times with their best performance in 1999 and 2000, when they reached second round.
The reward for the overall winners of this match-up will be a date with either Morocco’s Olympique Khourigba and Etoile du Sahel from Tunisia.
The eventual winners in the second round will qualify for the money-spinning group stage of the annual tournament.
