Information coming out of Rwanda is that Rwanda Football Association have handed coach Johnny McKinstry a new two-year contract.
The appointment comes on the back of a number of key successes in coach McKinstry’s first year in charge of the senior side.
The coach led Rwanda to the runner’s up position in CECAFA 2015, being named ’Coach of the Tournament’ for his efforts.
His influence was beneficial for the association when he guided Amavubi in January 2016 in their first ever appearance in the knock-out stages of a major international tournament as they reached the quarter-finals of CHAN, losing out to DR Congo.
"A key part of me being persuaded to accept a new contract was that FERWAFA, the Ministry of Sport, and the Government decided to support my vision for the future," said the coach.
“They were willing to agree to support my vision for the key steps that are required to allow the Amavubi to progress to the next stage of their development.
"The coming two years have the potential to be a very exciting period for football in Rwanda.”
The new deal will come as a boost for the national side as they are now focusing on meeting Mauritius in the first leg of 2017 AFCON qualifiers away on Saturday.
The return leg is scheduled for Kigali three days later at 3:30pm local time.
