The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have said their lawyers are looking at the propriety of changing the rules of the qualifying tournament for AFCON 2017 in midstream after Chad pulled out to cause their group to now only produce one finalists for Gabon 2017.
Chad pulled out of the qualifiers citing financial difficulties and according to the rules of the competition, Group G, which also has Egypt, Nigeria and Tanzania could now only produce a qualifier for the tournament proper.
“It is rather unfortunate that Chad, one of the teams in the qualification group, suddenly pulled out of the race, leaving only three teams left in the group, and only the winner of the group guaranteed qualification,” read in part the official statement.
“This appeared to have taken away our worst –case scenario of qualification.
“However, our legal unit is looking at the propriety of changing the rules midstream.”
