Former Newcastle United and Chelsea striker Demba Ba says the Premier League should not be concerned by the growing financial power of Chinese Super League (CSL) clubs.
The Senegalese striker now plies his trade for Shanghai Shenhua in China, with clubs in the country making headlines for being linked with big money moves for players such as Wayne Rooney and John Terry.
However, Ba believes the CSL is no threat to England’s top flight. He told The Sun: “The Premier League is not in competition with the Chinese Super League.
“Most of the players who come here are heading towards the end of the careers.
“And most of those who have decided against coming here are still looking after their careers and the glory, which is not a bad thing.
“When you start playing football, you want the glory, you want the top titles and to be recognised for what you can do.
“Without disrespecting China, the league here is not considered one of the most important in the world.
“Also you must consider in China, each club is only allowed four players from outside Asia, so there are only so many players they can sign.
“For me, England is the best country for football and the Premier League is the place to be."
