Polokwane City moved a step closer to Absa Premiership survival following a goalless draw against Mpumalanga Black Aces at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

The point moves Rise and Shine seven points clear of the relegation zone with Jomo Cosmos and AmaTuks set to go head-to-head at Olen Park on Sunday.

Neither side managed to test the opposition goalkeeper in the first stanza with both George Chigova and Jackson Mabokgwane virtually untested throughout the 90 minutes.

The best chance of the game fell to Thobani Mncwango in the 53rd minute. The in-form striker unlucky to see his volley attempt canon off the crossbar with Mabokgwane beaten.

Mncwango, who has scored 11 goals in the league this season, had another chance soon after, but Mabokgwane was quick off his line to deny the City forward.

There was a nervy moment for Chigova towards the end of the game as he rushed out of his area to challenge Nana Akosah-Bempah. Muhsin Ertuğral was off his seat in anger, but the Zimbabwe goalkeeper got the ball.

Black Aces next face Bidvest Wits on Tuesday with Polokwane City's next game against SuperSport United on the 8th of May.
