The University of Pretoria kept their Absa Premiership survival hopes alive with a 2-1 win over Golden Arrows at Tuks Stadium on Saturday.
Needing nothing but a win on the final day of the season, goals from Vuyisile Ntombayithethi and Getaneh Kebede spearheaded AmaTuks to all three points. The Tshwane side will now partake in the promotion/relegation playoffs after finishing the season in 15th place.
Jomo Cosmos have been relegated to the National First Division following a 3-1 defeat to Maritzburg United.
Defeat for Arrows means they missed out on a top eight finish by virtue of having an inferior goal difference to SuperSport United.
Having survived a nervy opening to the game, AmaTuks opened the scoring on 29 minutes. Ntombayithethi heading the ball past Maxamilian Mbaeva from a free-kick.
Tristyn Coetsee was then forced into action, pulling off a superb save to deny Gladwin Shitolo before Kwanele Hlongwane saw his shot rattle the post.
Kebede doubled the hosts lead with a free-kick from an tight angle on the cusp of half-time, as AmaTuks headed into the break two goals up.
Innocent Nemukondeni received his marching orders for a second bookable offence with 10 minutes remaining. Abafana Bes'thende capitalised on their man advantage through Shitolo in stoppage time, but AmaTuks held on for all three points.
