Mpumalanga Black Aces goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters has expressed joy after his nomination for the ABSA Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season Award.

The Premier Soccer league announced the nominees on Monday morning during a press conference held at its head quarters in Parktown, Johannesburg.

The ex-Maritzburg United goal-minder will fight for the award against Mamelodi Sundowns number one keeper, Denis Onyango and Bidvest Wits' Moeneeb Josephs.

The Cape Town-born keeper helped AmaZayoni to a fourth place finish whilst Onyango helped the Brazilians win the Telkom Knockout Cup as well as the league title.

On the other hand, The Clever Boys finished the season in second place with the help of the former Bafana Bafana shot stopper, Josephs.

Speaking to African, Walters said he is honoured to be nominated and expressed his desire to bag the accolade.

“I'm happy with the nomination and I can finally say hard work pays off,” said Walters.

“The two keepers, (Onyango and Josephs) had a good season and I'd like to know who wins it.

“I'm very happy to see my name among the best keepers and would love to win it definitely.”

When asked about his former side, Maritzburg United, and their great escape, the stopper ,who was part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup squad, added that he is happy for the Team of Choice.

Ernst Middendorp's men managed to beat Jomo Cosmos 3-1 on final day of the league season, to avoid relegation to the National First Division.

“I'm happy for them you know, I can't express it because they're close to me.”

The league's governing body announced that the awards ceremony will be held at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park on Monday, May 30.
