As part of AfricanFootball.com’s build-up to this weekend’s 2016 Nedbank Cup final between SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates, we look at the teams’ key strikers: Jeremy Brockie and Tendai Ndoro.

New Zealander Brockie, 28, has enjoyed another prolific season in South African football. He arrived in the PSL midway through last season and went on to score 10 goals from 17 starts. Though his scoring rate hasn’t been quite as impressive in terms of goals-per-game this season, a return of 17 goals in all competitions is still a superb achievement.

Three of the Matsatsantsa number 11’s goals have come in the Nedbank Cup, with his strikes against Moroka Swallows, University of Pretoria and Black Aces helping the Tshwane club into the final.

Zimbabwean marksman Ndoro has gone one better in the Nedbank Cup, netting four times to help Pirates reach the final. The 28-year-old made headlines when his brace saw off the challenge of Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto derby, and he followed it up with further goals against Jomo Cosmos and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Yet Ndoro’s form in this competition has not been reflected in the rest of the season. His league stats – five goals in 17 appearances – are respectable but far from prolific. However, that will not matter one little bit to the Luwewe-born player if he can add to his goal tally on Saturday and steer Pirates to Nedbank Cup glory.
