Kenya came from a goal down to beat Congo 2-1 in a 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani on Sunday.

The Harambee Stars were under pressure to win their first game of the qualifiers, having already suffered elimination heading into this weekend's clash.

But with little expected from Stanley Okumbi's men, they exceeded expectations, coming from behind to end Congo's aspirations of reaching next year's showpiece in Gabon.

Defeat for the Diables Rouges confirmed Guinea-Bissau as Group E winners with the Djurtus qualifying for what will be their first ever Afcon competition.

Stade de Reims midfielder Prince Oniangue opened the scoring on 19 minutes, converting from 12 yards after the referee pointed to the spot.

Kenya leveled matters five minutes later through Ayub Timbe. The Belgium-based winger's rocket whistling into into the back of the net.

Eric Johanna completed the comeback in the 67th minute. Southampton's Victor Wanyama slipped his teammate through on goal, Johanna providing the finishing touches with a delicate chip over the onrushing goalkeeper.

Congo surged forward as they went in search of the goal that would keep their hopes of qualification alive, but the hosts stood firm to deny the 1972 champions.
