After a rain delay, home team Central African Republic defeated Angola 3-1 Sunday to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for a first-ever AFCON finals.

CAR, who lost the corresponding fixture 4-0 in Angola, have now recorded 10 points from five matches, but face a most daunting trip to group leaders DR Congo in a final qualifier in September.

They could well be on the flight to Gabon in January should they avoid defeat in DRC.

Vianny Mabide opened scoring for the host team in the 37th minute, before Euloge Enza doubled their lead two minutes later.

They netted a third goal in the 80th minute, before the visitors pulled a goal back four minutes from time.

Both Angola and Madagascar have been eliminated from the competition.
