Benin defeated Equatorial Guinea 2-1 in a rescheduled AFCON 2017 qualifier in Cotonou on Sunday.

The Squirrels now have 11 points from five matches and are in strong position to qualify for Gabon 2017 at worst as one of the best losers.

South Sudan are third with three points, while Equatorial Guinea are bottom on a point.

Benin's final game in September will be at Mali, who lead Group C on 13 points.

The match was rescheduled after FIFA lifted a suspension on Benin over government interference in the running of the country’s football federation.

On Sunday, Khaled Adenon put Benin in front after 25 minutes.

However, Equatorial Guinea drew level in the 59th minute through Ivan Essono.

Benin grabbed the match winner on the hour courtesy of David Djigla.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 64th minute, when Ivan Edu was sent off.
