University of Pretoria and Highlands Park played to a goalless draw in the final Promotion Playoff match, held at Tuks Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
With the Lions of the North having already assured themselves of finishing top of the three-team log, the match in Pretoria carried no significance and it is perhaps no surprise that it ended in a stalemate.
There was no shortage of efforts at goal from both teams, but ultimately the goalkeepers remained unbeaten throughout.
Highlands’ Lerato Mosopa almost broke the deadlock just past the hour mark, but his header from a corner kick hit the woodwork rather than the back of the net.
Tuks could have won the game late on when Jermaine Christian was penalised for hand-ball in the 18-yard area, but Sibusiso Mthethwa missed the spot kick.
Highlands will play in the Absa Premiership in the 2016/17 season, while Tuks will return to the National First Division for the first time since 2012.
