Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama says he is looking forward to a “new dawn” in his career as his transfer from Southampton to Tottenham Hotspur draws ever closer, according to the Daily Express.

Though neither the Saints nor Spurs have given official confirmation of the move, Wanyama says he has completed a medical and is set to link up with former boss Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane.

The 24-year-old tried to force through a move to Spurs at the beginning of last season, but Southampton refused to sell him.

Wanyama now has less than a year left on his contract, meaning the South Coast club could miss out on a transfer free if he departs at the end of the 2016/17 season.

"I am indeed elated at passing my medicals at Tottenham. It is a new dawn in my career and I believe I will give my best for my new team," Wanyama is quoted by the Daily Express.

"I want to thank Southampton management and fans for the exceptional time we had together. I will always have a fond place for them in my heart."

Wanyama arrived at Southampton in 2013 after being signed from Celtic, and he went on to make 92 appearances for the club.
