AfricanFootball.com first broke the story that coach Samson Siasia has pruned his squad to the Rio Olympics to 35 and we now give a further insight of who these lucky players are.
READ: Siasia submits 35-man squad
We have exclusively gathered that Siasia has kept faith with the core of the players from the domestic league who he has worked with since he took up the post two years ago.
The players are goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel, Sincere Seth as well as skipper Azubuike Okechukwu, Junior Ajayi and Usman Mohammed, who have since taken their football overseas.
Flying Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, who was part of the U23 AFCON-winning squad in December, is not on the squad.
Assistant coach Monday Odigie has already revealed Chelsea star Mikel Obi, Daniel Akpeyi, Odion Ighalo and Godfrey Oboabona are the over-aged players still on the provisional squad for the summer games.
However, Watford will not release Ighalo for the tournament and Kelechi Iheanacho has opted to stay back at his premier League club Manchester City.
Several pros on the provisional squad look likely to also skip this competition, which is not on the FIFA calendar and so the foreign clubs are not obliged to release their players for it.
As we first reported, Chelsea central defender Kenneth Omeruo has rescinded an earlier decision to skip the tournament on medical advice and he will not be a direct replacement for injured Segun Oduduwa.
It is expected that there could still be a few gate crashers for the final 18-man squad to Rio, Brazil, in August.
