DR Congo giants TP Mazembe took control of Group A in the CAF Confederation Cup with a 1-0 win away to Tanzania’s Young Africans on Tuesday afternoon.
The match at the National Stadium in Dar Es Salaam was a closely-contested one, but the Ravens were able to claim all three points on offer thanks to a goal from Thomas Ulimwengu.
The 23-year-old Tanzanian national struck against his countrymen in the 76th minute, deciding a tense tie in favour of the visitors.
The result sees Mazembe move to six points at the top of Group A, having opened their account with a 3-1 home win over Ghana’s Medeama earlier in the month. Yanga remain on zero points.
Algeria’s MO Bejaia will look to the DRC side on six points, but must win in Ghana tomorrow to do so.
Mazembe and Bejaia will meet for a double-header, which is likely to decide the winner of the group, next month. The Algerians will play host on July 17, before the return game in Lubumbashi 10 days later.
