What an entertaining game - Nine goals with late comers Nigeria shading it by the odd goal

90+4 - GOAL! Japan score again, Suzuki clips it beyond the Nigeria goalie

90+2 - Throw-in for Japan in Nigeria half of the pitch

90 - Despite the crazy nature of this clash, the game has been won and lost now as we enter stoppage time

89 - Scrappy passage of play by both sides who have both ran themselves to the ground

88 - Nigeria now trying to run down the clock

86 - Mikel out, Popoola Saliu in for Nigeria, a midfielder for another midfielder

85 - Mikel mistake lets in Japan, but Troost-Ekong does well to concede a corner and moments later, Endo's knock-down causes confusion in Nigeria box

84 - Nigeria boxing clever now, keeping the ball around their own half of the pitch

82 - Game held up temporarily to attend to injured Troost-Ekong

80 - Nigeria are looking tired now and they must be more clever not to let another goal as Japan keep attacking

79 - Moments later, Japan open up the suspect Nigeria defence but they are caught offside and then they win a corner as they pile on the pressure

78 - Defensive change by Nigeria - Defensive player Ndifreke in for striker Ezekiel

75 - Japan change and it's an attacking one

Nigeria now sitting back in defence as Japan try to get back into the game with more goals

72 - Nigeria change - Usman Mohammed out, KIngsley Madu in

Again poor defending by Nigeria and Osano fires home for their third goal

70 - GOAL! Japan pull a goal back

Mikel was very much involved in this goal - He forced the mistake from the Japan goalkeeper, who rushed out to stop Sadiq Umar and from the poor clearance, Etebo smashes home from outside the box

66 - GOAL! Etebo gets his fourth goal

64 - Sadiq Umar on the prowl again but in the end this Nigeria attack fails to yield anything

60 - Mikel fires at goal with his weaker left foot, but it misses not by much

59 - But at the other end of the pitch, Sincere fouls and free kick against Nigeria not far off from goal

58 - Nigeria win a free kick in a dangerous position now, but it is wasted by skipper Mikel Obi

56 - Amuzie concedes  a throw-in around Nigeria box after Japan attack yet again

53 - Nigeria goalkeeper Daniel deals well with a dangerous ball from the left and so the scores remain Nigeria 4 Japan 2

Nigeria now have a better cushion but Japan won't surrender just yet

51 - GOAL! Etebo scores for his hat-trick as he sends the goalkeeper the wrong way from the penalty spot

50 - PENALTY! Sadiq Umar is brought down

47 - Japan attack and win a throw-in around the Nigeria corner flag

46 - Japan restart the game

It's half time now and both the players and spectators can take a deserved breather after  a very racy start to proceedings. Don't rule out more goals in the second half as both teams' defences are vulnerable

45 - Sadiq Umar again troubles the Japan goal but Etebo fails to connect a cross from the exciting Roma striker

The Dream Team VI are back in front and deservedly so, but can they defend their lead till the interval at least?

42 - GOAL! Etebo gets his brace for Nigeria courtesy of an assist by the unselfish Sadiq Umar

41 - The Japan goalie denies Imoh ezekiel with a brave save at the feet of the striker

40 - The hot and humid weather appears to have taken its toll on the two teams as the pace has slowed down for some time now

37 - Wild shot by Okechukwu from distance as Nigeria continue to press for a go-ahead goal

35 - Offside by Sadiq Umar again

33 - Nigeria are taking the game to the Asian champions now

31 - Nigeria come close again,  but no player to make the necessary connection as the ball screams across the goal of Japan

30 - Still Nigeria 2 Japan 2 after half an hour of neck-breaking action

You could say it - After the storm comes the calm, this game has taken a more normal pace with much of the action now confined in the midfield

24 - Another Nigeria attack breaks down and at the other end, Shehu's mistake puts Nigeria's defence in trouble and they concede a corner

22 - Nigeria defence in another mix-up but somehow they clear their lines against the marauding Japs

20 - Sadiq Umar offside again

19 - Amuzie's shot is tipped for a corner by Japan goalkeeper and from the set piece, Sadiq Umar's header misses target not by much

Some sanity has returned to this extra-ordinary start to this game as both teams have now settled down and are passing the ball better

16 - The first game in this group has also produced four goals - Sweden 2 Colombia 2

14 - Both teams are trying to retain ball possession after a crazy start to this Group B match that has already produced four goals

UNBELIEVABLE STUFF!!!

12 - Japan draw level yet again! Takumi Minamino slides the ball underneath Nigeria goalkeeper

It has been absolutely crazy, 2 goals in as many minutes

10 - And almost immediately, Nigeria regain the lead through Etebo

9 - It's 1-1 as Japan draw level from the penalty spot through Shinzo Koroki

8 - Amuzie is booked and penalty against Nigeria from his foul inside the box

6 - GOAL! Nigeria score through Sadiq Umar who cashes in on a rebound from Imoh Ezekiel's goal-bound shot

3 - Big save by goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel as Nigeria concede a corner from the rebound

2 - Sadiq Umar caught offside

Nigeria already pressing their opponents

Japan starting XI: Masatoshi Kushibiki – Sei Muroya, Wataru Endo, Hiroki Fujiharu, Naomichi Ueda, Tsukasa Shiotani, Riki Harakawa, Ryota Oshima, Shoya Nakajima, Shinzo Koroki, Takumi Minamino

There is a surprise start for AS Roma striker Sadiq Umar, while Norway-based Troost-Ekong is the only recognised central defender in this line-up by coach Samson Siasia

Nigeria starting XI: Emmanuel Daniel – Stanley Amuzie, Sincere Seth, Troost Ekong, Shehu Abdullahi – Azubuike Okechukwu, Mikel Obi, Usman Mohammed – Oghenekaro Etebo, Imoh Ezekiel, Sadiq Umar

The goal scorers were Mikael Ishak (43) and Astrit Ajdarevic (62)for Sweden and Teofilo Gutierrez (17) and Dorlan Pablon (75-pen) for the ColombiansThe opening match in Nigeria's group between European champions Sweden and Colombia ended in an entertaining  2-2 draw

The stage is the Amazonia Arena in Manaus and kick-off is 2am Nigerian time, which is 9pm local time in Brazil

So, it's something of a triumph that Nigeria's Dream Team VI were not walked over following a most chaotic build-up to this match

The big news leading to this game is of course that Nigeria landed at match venue Manaus barely seven hours to this game after their departure from their training base in Atlanta, Georgia, was severally moved

Nigeria are African champions at U23 level, while Japan are kings at the same level in Asia
