The South Africa Men's Olympic Team have suffered a major double blow ahead of their crucial Group A 2016 Rio Olympic Games clash against Iraq on Wednesday.
SA FACE MUST-WIN RIO CLASH WITH IRAQ
Kaizer Chiefs defender Eric Mathoho and Lille striker Lebo Mothiba have both been ruled out of the game; with Owen da Gama's men in desperate need of a win if they were to advance to the knockout stages of the competition.
Mathoho, who went down in the final 10 minutes of the U23's 1-0 defeat to Denmark, has failed to recover from an ankle injury. His absence will come as a major blow with 'Tower' having bolstered the country's defensive frailties.
Moreover, Mothiba has been withdrawn because of a potential case of chicken pox.
Abbubaker Mobara, though, will be available for selection despite suffering a hamstring strain against the Danes.
South Africa have to beat Iraq at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo or face elimination from the football tournament.
Kickoff is at 22h00 local time (03h00 CAT on Thursday).
