Midfielder Azubuike Okechukwu’s return after serving out his one-match suspension has gingered Nigeria ahead of Saturday’s Rio Olympics third-place match against Honduras.

Assistant coach Monday Odigie also disclosed injured Oghenekaro will have to pass a late fitness test to be available for the bronze medal game

Both players and officials admitted they missed hard working defensive midfielder Azubuike against Germany who spanked the African champions 2-0 in the semi-final on Wednesday.

“Azubike I can confirm to you will play against Honduras in Saturday’s third-place match because his card suspension is over,” Odigie said.

“His contribution was missed against Germany and his return to the team would definitely solidify the midfield against Honduras.”

However, the media-shy coach will not confirm the return of team’s highest goal scorer Etebo for the Honduras game.

“As regards Etebo’s availability for the Honduras game sincerely speaking I can’t tell you anything for now because we need to see how he comes up in practice,”Odigie said.

He also gave the cheering news that the mood of the players is very high and they are raring to go against the Honduras team.

“The boys are well aware of the fact that picking the bronze medal of the tournament will definitely compensate for their hard work in this tournament,” he said.

“So, they are all in high spirits to give their best in the third-place match tomorrow (Saturday).”
