Ivorian fans celebrate after country won 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea

Champions Cote d’Ivoire, beaten finalists last year Ghana, hosts Gabon and Algeria have been ranked as top seeds for Wednesday’s AFCON 2017 draw in Libreville.

Hosts Gabon will head Group A, Cote d’Ivoire top Group C, while a draw will be conducted to determine which groups house Ghana and Algeria.
According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the 16 finalists’ records at the last three AFCON qualifiers and finals as well those of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers and finals were used to do the seedings.
The second set of seeds is Tunisia, Mali, Burkina Faso and DR Congo and they will be in Pot 2.
Pot 3 has Cameroon, Senegal, Morocco and Egypt, while Pot 4 will have Togo, Uganda as well as debutants Zimbabwe and Guinea Bissau.
AFCON 2017 will be staged by Gabon between January 14 and February in the cities of Libreville, Franceville, Oyem-Bitam and Port-Gentil.

Pot 1: Gabon, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Algeria
Pot 2: Tunisia, Mali, Birkina Faso, DR Congo
Pot 3: Cameroon, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt
Pot 4: Togo, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Guinea Bissua
