According to O Jogo, Porto re hoping to delay Yacine Brahimi’s departure to join Algeria’s camp ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Fennec Foxes have scheduled their pre-tournament camp to start on January 2, with a friendly against Mauritania set for January 7.
Yet the Portuguese club, at the request of coach Nuno Espirito Santo, will try to keep Brahimi with them for Primeira Liga clashes against Moreiense and Pacos e Ferreira on January 3 and 8 respectively.
The Algerian attacking midfielder has demonstrated fine form for the Portuguese side since winning back his place in the team under Espirito Santo.
However, it is unlikely Algeria will agree to Porto’s request as they gear up to face Zimbabwe, Tunisia and Senegal in Group B at the 2017 AFCON.
