Orlando Pirates stand-in coach Augusto Palacios says the club must venture into the market to source new talent in an aim to bolster some departments.

The Buccaneers mentor was furious following their 2-1 loss to Bloemfontein Celtic on Tuesday night in the Absa Premiership.

Speaking to the Sowetan, Palacios says all the goals they conceded since he took over are unnecessary, blaming silly errors from his charges.

“I think you have a team with too many new players. And then you need to understand that any coach who comes in needs to work‚” he told the Sowetan.

“I am only a son of the club. Tomorrow if I need to leave the team and somebody else comes in‚ it’s not a problem for me.

“But the players need to be the ones who are professional. And realise that this is a big club.

“The game that we drew against Baroka – it’s impossible. You go to Highlands and then you’re leading‚ and then you make a mistake. All the goals scored against Pirates in my eight games were silly goals.

“I have had six weeks. I have tried to keep one formation but their have been injuries and bookings.

“But this team needs players with a lot of character. If I step aside‚ I wish the person who comes in the best – but it’s a lot of work to do.

“In some positions the team needs to be reinforced to be more solid – that’s my opinion.”

The Soweto giants will now take the break and regroup for their 2017 league match against Platinum Stars at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Wednesday night, February 08.
