La Liga Nigerian Ambassador Mutiu Adepoju has hailed the transfer of Enyimba forward Ezekiel Bassey to Barcelona B, saying this will open the door for more players from the NPFL to feature in the Spanish top-flight league.
Bassey has joined Barcelona second team on a loan move till the end of the season after which he could be given a permanent deal if he impressed.
“It’s a very good move for the player and for Nigerian football,” said Adepoju, who played for several Spanish clubs including Racing Santander and Real Sociedad.
“We are all delighted with this transfer.
“The partnership between La Liga and the NPFL is working and this is only the beginning.
“This will be a big opening for other players in the Nigeria league to also move to Spain.”
He said the player will make the grade in Spain.
“He’s a quality player who has already proved himself in Nigeria and I believe he will learn a lot at La Masia to quickly adapt to a new approach to the game in Spain,” predicted Adepoju, who is also the country manager of La Liga in Nigeria.
“He needs to work hard, learn and be disciplined so that he could reach the very top.”
